Pizza Man, Ready for Delivery!

Originally debuted in the Australia comic Anthology, Pizza Man was created by Damien Shanahan in the mid 1990’s. Gaining a national following Damien then released Pizza Man in a printed black & white stand alone series. Damien explains the basic premiss of this super cheesy dude:
"It's a world of superhero silliness. At the heart of our comic, we poke fun at the much loved world of superheroes. Our hero Pizza Man and his trusty sidekick Mozzarella duke it out with a cast of bumbling villains, least of all their arch nemesis Professor Klink who always has some new harebrained scheme cooked up."

During the 1990's creating comics was extremely expensive and distribution was predominately through one company in Australia so Pizza Man was temporarily retired. Fast forward to 2011 and while waiting for his work visa in the USA, Damien started colouring some of the old Pizza Man pages with the help of his wife Julie.
"I was never really happy with the way the originals made it to press and decided it would be great to apply my years of experience and get the comics looking the way I always wished they should. I'll admit I'm equal parts excited and exhausted, being the perfectionist I am, I really wanted to pour everything I could into the launch and doing that solely after hours and weekends can be challenging, but today it all paid off."

Fast forward another four years and Pizza Man: The Supreme Collection is ready for delivery. Through his company Shanamation, Damien has taken the project to Kickstarter with some pretty cool packages available; with the book in soft and hardcover formats, T-shirts, trading cards and even an adorable custom hand-painted Funko POP! figurine. Oh and did we mention the rad prints from some of Australia's finest comic artists; Ben Templesmith
(30 Days of Night), Craig Bruyn (From Above), Darren Close (Killeroo) along with Aaron & Dave Marchant (Shark).

Damien says,"It’s the only time ever that pizza has been better reheated!"

Project Orangutan: A Comic with a Cause

Project Orangutan is a new 'Comics with a Cause' incentive that has real heart for our closest mammalian relative, the gorgeous & intelligent Orangutan.

Working with the charity
The Orangutan Project, the team driving this worthy project are like minded creatives from Australia, South Africa, United Kingdom, Canada and the United States; with more putting their hand up each day. So why Orangutans?
Project Orangutan says:
"Currently there are more than 2000 orphaned Orangutans living in orphanages where they are cared for like little humans to the age of 8 and taught how to fend for themselves before being relocated. Why not just send them 50 bucks? Because I believe we can do better. We registered with Orange Tango to raise funds for The Orangutan Project, and the next step is to use the medium we love to contribute to and raise awareness of the dire situation in Borneo and Sumatra."
With your help Project Orangutan aim to publish a 22 page printed comic and a (est. 88 pages) hard cover book called 'Operation Orangutan'. The books will feature pin-ups and maximum 2 page stories featuring their honoured guests, the Orangutans.

Gokong by Paul Rebec                            Art by Darren Close

So who can contribute? ANYONE! Project Orangutan needs the support of creators from all walks of life around the world to join in & fill up this book with great content to create a comic with a cause, like none other!
  • Stage 1 - Creative art deadline due May 15th
  • Stage 2 - Indiegogo campaign's deadline June 8th
  • Stage 3 - World Wide Launch June 30th

These cute little guys desperately need all the help they can get. For more information you can check out Project Orangutans Facebook page HERE.

Jason Edmiston has Eyes Without a Face

The eyes are the window of pop-culture in 'Eyes Without a Face' solo show at the Mondo Gallery in Austin by Jason Edmiston. Drawing on the most known eyes of pop culture,
Jason says:

“I had the idea for the show when I was working on my last solo exhibition for Mondo Gallery. I was driving around town with my wife bouncing concepts off of her. I checked my rear view and had the idea. The shape of the mirror made me think of just using a tight cropping of eyes for the basis of a show. I also kind of wanted to see what it would feel like to be in a gallery surrounded by eyes staring at you. It should be quite an experience to stand in the centre of the gallery and slowly rotate 360 degrees, creating a feeling of being watched by your heroes.” via Collider

Each amazing 1:1 ratio piece is hand painted on wood showcasing 150 original pieces inspired by film, music, comics, video games, toys and more. Eyes Without a Face will run from March 13th to April 4th.
